[OOC] Build-A-Pulled Workshop

BUILD-A-PULLED WORKSHOP
Full Navigation
Greetings and welcome to Myddvai's First Season! We are very honored to have you stop by and show interest in our game. Take a look around and let our mod team know if you have any questions!Player-controlled characters are known as the "Pulled".
Feel free to join us in the game discord! While it's not required, we recommend joining to keep up to date with game announcements. Moderation will now also be running a plurk account for this game!
This workshop is the first step into the World of Myddvai.
Pulled will arrive in the game as a Myddvai Breed, which players can learn about in depth on our Breeds and Magic Page. Your choice of Breed is very important! Breed choice will affect what magical abilities your character has, as well as transform them physically and aesthetically.
Transformation elements in this game are at OOC discretion and customizable to suit individual player comfort. Characters can arrive fully transformed from moment one or slowly acquire their new features throughout the run of the game. However, all Pulled must be visually recognizable as their designated Breed.
Please choose a Breed that is appealing OOCly, first and foremost. This is not an IC choice!
Each Breed has a few "required" traits that need to be included in a character's new design. Optional elements are simply further suggestions and not a complete list of possibilities. We did not want to create an overly restrictive guide, but rather work with players to build a unique Pulled design for their character!
Moderation will be on-hand in this post to answer questions, bounce ideas off of, and clarify any limitations. We encourage players to brainstorm and discuss ideas with one another, as well! This workshop is for the player's benefit and is not binding. Final decision is to be submitted within the application to the game proper.
If you are interested in joining, you can request an invite on our Invites Page. Our current Test Drive Meme can be found here and is open to all!
Our current game cap is (40) players, limited to (1) character per player.
This game will last for (15) Months, so take a look at our game calendar which accounts for the full run of Myddvai's First Season!
Considering a character with a future tech limb? Aid devices like mechanical limbs or other body parts will be replaced by the Springtide Druids, with Bottle Prosthetics Visual Guide (also in Plain Text Here.)

Questions for Mods: SO. ASIDE FROM YOUR REACTION TO MY COY IMPLIED QUESTIONS ABOUT BREEDS AND FIRE ABOVE. Seth also outlined an elephant in the room in her workshop comment: the major conceit of Though I Am An Inept Villainess is that Shu Keigetsu initiates a body swap and attempted replacement of Kou Reirin, leading to shenanigans! This is absolutely something we'd hope to play with and "can initiate a body swap" is absolutely the Taste Of Home power I want to request if allowed; if it's something you're open to I'm very happy to work within whatever constraints are necessary!
If "yes, sounds cool," this leads to so many further questions.
- Could we theoretically bring these characters in with "in the wrong body" as the base state?
- The body swap power is already nerfed in canon (it takes enough qi that it can only be done a couple of times a day and requires rest, etc.), but what other guard rails would be necessary/fit the setting best -- only using it once per week? Automatic reversion after a period of time? Limiting it to Kou Reirin on the logic that establishing that connection initially was done at home and can't be replicated in this new setting? (In practice this is how we'd play it anyway, but that can be formalized.) Something else?
- Would Pulled breed and abilities stay with the body, go with the soul, or will you leave that up to us? This definitely has a potential impact on the breed choices I'd make.
Speaking of breed abilities, how much flex is anticipated for characters to pursue wild swings outside of what is outlined on the info pages -- could Rahuth turn in a dark direction and try to come up with super sneaky ways to steal life force from others instead of sacrifice their own, for example? Could humans near-kill an animal and then offer it the bond as a reprieve to keep its spirit from dying completely, if you couldn't get it to agree any other way? This is a character who decided that attempting a supervillain wizard take on Freaky Friday was a viable therapeutic strategy for low self-esteem, so your anticipated mod reactions to IC attempts at Wolf Pupy approaches to great power/responsibility will factor into how I set this up.
Thanks so much in advance for your help with these "YEAH WE SURE DO NEED TO BE SURE THIS THIRD, ALSO UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT KIND OF WIZARD IS WORKSHOPPED ADEQUATELY" considerations, lol

So, if you want to play her as a Rahuth, she will need to be a real world bird of some kind. We don't want to extend them out to mythical creatures because that is more of a Chimera thing, which is not a currently allowed breed type. If you wanted her to have some fire elements to her design as a Rahuth, you could add those using the "taste of home" reward, but I think you'll prefer to use that one-off for the body swap power below.
If she was human, there are mythical animals she could bond with if you went the Beastmaster route. Moderation would be happy to include an encounter with a Vermillion Bird (or other desired creature) if you chose human and then reached that upgrade tier. The bird would be limited in some ways (flamethrower breath wouldn't be allowed, for example) but it could have elemental aesthetics as desired. Affinity for fire that would include any fire control/creation would need to be a "taste of home" power.
Here are what the moderation team decided would be best with the bodyswapping.
If you and Seth app together in agreement that you'll be playing these character from a body swapped canon point, we're good with that! Basically, no double bodies of the same person, but starting off swapped is fine.
To fit our rules on no canon powers, the two could not swap back at the start. If you both fulfilled the reward requirements to use your character one time "taste of home" rewards to be able to do so, then you would be allowed to swap! This is a small power regain, so your characters would only be allowed to swap back and forth between themselves. We'd limit them to only be able to do so by direct touch, so if they got physically separated, no swapping while in different places.
Breed choice, attributes, and power levels would stay with the original body and not transfer! If you, for example, had Shu Keigetsu in Kou Reirin's body be a human and bond with a bird, that bird would stay attached to Kou Reirin's body despite any swaps occurring back-and-forth. The bird would be soul bonded with whoever was currently in that body and be VERY confused by this strange swap. Very jarring for them! This would go likewise for Shu Keigetsu's body, which would maintain whatever breed choice, attributes, and power levels were held by Kou Reirin's player at that time.
On the topic of wild swings with magic, yes! We absolutely will be encouraging characters to get creative within our magic system. We cannot promise everything inquired about will be doable, but hopefully there can be a balance in unique routes with powers and not breaking the game. There will be consequences for dabbling in established taboo or criminal magic use.
To your direct scenario questions, both of those examples are historical misuse of both types of magic you brought up! There is a lot of history to Myddvai to discover and character will have regular access to a vast library. This will allow them to research topics just like those. What characters choose to do with that kind of knowledge and if the information they found is reliable, well... characters will need to find that out for themselves! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

thank you all so much for the quick discussion and reply!!! one quick clarification question @ Pine | Lord Mod -- does the fact that the swap happens due to Shu Keigetsu's powers alone make a difference, or would both characters need to use their individual Taste of Homes on being able to swap?
Pine | Lord Mod — Today at 9:02 PM
no difference! We'd want you both to have the power to allow it, since it's a bit further than we'd normally allow that small power to go, but for the cost of both of your one-time only rewards, we think it's fair leeway.
